John Clark is the winemaker for 10SPAN Vineyards, an artisanal collection of fine wines sourced from cool-climate vineyards along the California Central Coast. The label gives John the opportunity to coax the best from premium Santa Barbara County and Monterey County fruit, especially the area’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for which John has a particular fondness. The Central Coast’s unique topography is ideal for John’s experimental style of winemaking.
With more than 30 years of winemaking experience, John has honed his craft and expertise throughout California’s finest wine regions. Prior to 10SPAN, John fulfilled his passion for Central Coast wines with the creation of Brophy-Clark, a boutique label centered on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that he co-founded with his wife, a viticulturist. Throughout the past two decades, John has also served as winemaker for Corbett Canyon and Concannon wines.
For John, winemaking combines his background and training as a scientist with an appreciation for art and for one of the world’s oldest beverages. His work with the American Vineyard Association further reinforces that connection. John thrives on taking risks and experimenting with his wines to discover and introduce new experiences for wine lovers to enjoy. John is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego with degrees in chemistry and biochemistry and holds a Master’s degree in enology from California State University, Fresno.
